Made in Eswatini Consumer Fair 2026 Rescheduled to May Day in Honour of Ruby Jubilee

The 2026 edition of the Made in Eswatini Consumer Fair has been officially rescheduled toย Friday, Mayย 1, in observance of the Ruby Jubilee celebrations marking 40 years since the Coronation of His Majesty King Mswati III.

The announcement was made by A Peculiar People, custodians of the Made in Eswatiniยฎ Mark and curators of the annual consumer fair, who said the decision reflects respect for the historic national milestone, with major jubilee celebrations expected to take place on the same weekend as the Fairโ€™s originally planned date.

Beyond its symbolic significance, the new date has been described as a strategic economic intervention aimed at strengthening domestic trade.

By aligning the Fair with Workersโ€™ Day, organisers say they are intentionally placing Eswatiniโ€™s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the centre of heightened consumer activity.

The public holiday allows for the responsible transformation of Dr Sishayi Road, one of Mbabaneโ€™s busiest commercial arteries, into a large, open-air marketplace.

Hosting the Fair at month-end is expected to further enhance consumer purchasing power, maximising turnover for local businesses.

On the day, Dr Sishayi Road will be converted into what organisers describe as a โ€œliving local superstore,โ€ enabling consumers to buy directly from producers and reinforcing the Buy Local movement.

Interest in the 2026 Fair has reached unprecedented levels. Organisers confirmed that 309 MSMEs successfully registered this year, more than double the 141 recorded in 2025.

The surge has been cited as a clear indicator of growing confidence in the Made in Eswatini platform.

As a result, exhibition space will be limited, with the floor layout currently being redesigned to ensure equitable visibility for participating brands while maintaining a seamless consumer experience.

A Peculiar People has formally communicated the revised date to all registered enterprises and has engaged the Mbabane Municipal Council to ensure full compliance with municipal requirements and approvals.

The Made in Eswatini Consumer Fair will remain free to enter, with additional efforts made to expand market access for local producers, according to the brains behind this initiative.

Retail buyers from major chain stores across Southern Africa have been invited to attend, creating opportunities for broader distribution and trade linkages.

Organisers expressed gratitude to key partners, including the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Mbabane Municipal Council, development partners, business associations, the media and consumers, and extended an open invitation to the public to join the celebration of local commerce on 1 May 2026.
