Born and raised in the serene community of Fonteyn, Eswatini, Mpumy-Grey, known off-screen as Nompumelelo Tetsemibile Tsabedze, embodies authenticity, grace, and ambition.
Growing up in the nurturing hands of her grandparents, she developed a strong sense of identity rooted in humility and love.
“I learnt how to write my first decent word at Fonteyn Primary School,” she recalls fondly.

After earning her LLB at the University of Eswatini, Mpumy-Grey’s journey led her across continents to pursue a Master’s degree in International Relations in Taiwan, a leap that would shape both her worldview and her style.
As one of five siblings, Mpumy-Grey credits her family for inspiring her grounded approach to life. Yet it was fashion that gave her a language of expression all her own. “My love for fashion has no complicated story,” she says with a smile.
“It’s something I’ve always had in me. I’ll never forget saving for months in high school just to buy a pair of all-white Sketchers. I probably wore them every day—and that’s where my love for sneakers began.”
A Polished And Authentic Style
When asked to describe her personal style, Mpumy-Grey doesn’t hesitate. “Polished and authentic,” she says. “I draw inspiration from all spheres of life. My ultimate goal is to be comfortable.”
For her, fashion isn’t about following trends, it’s about finding balance between refinement and ease.

Much of her inspiration comes from personal experience, especially her travels and exposure to digital and cultural spaces. “Social media has opened my eyes to so many beautiful pieces and designers,” she explains. But unlike many influencers, Mpumy-Grey refuses to confine herself to one niche. “I don’t limit myself to high-end fashion only. I draw inspiration and pieces from everywhere.”
Behind the glamor of her social media posts lies a reality many influencers face: the challenge of time.
“My biggest challenge has to be time,” she admits.
“It’s unfortunate I can’t focus all my energy on content creation because I have a 9-to-5 job. Certain platforms don’t remunerate for our content, so it’s all about balance and passion.”
What sets her apart, however, is her commitment to authenticity. She treats fashion not just as a visual statement, but as an art form deserving respect. “Every sneaker worn has to be cleaned before being placed back on the shelf,” she shares. “Clothes are a form of art to me, so I need to respect my craft just like every artist.”
A Fan Of Style
When it comes to choosing between comfort and style, Mpumy-Grey aligns herself with iconic voices. Quoting designer Vera Wang, she agrees that “A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.”
She also cites Cary Grant, who said that true style means looking “perfectly happy and relaxed in your clothes, which must appear part of you rather than something you just donned.”

For Mpumy-Grey, confidence and comfort are the cornerstones of true elegance.
Her admiration for designers is diverse spanning both local and global influences. “Maxhosa is at the top of my list for its authentic cultural representation,” she says proudly. “And Balenciaga, for their innovative designs that push boundaries.”
These labels reflect her own approach to fashion rooted in identity yet open to evolution.
Living Abroad And Staying Grounded
Now based in Taiwan, Mpumy-Grey continues to grow both personally and professionally, though the transition hasn’t always been easy.
“I’ve been in Taiwan for a couple of years, and the culture shock still gets me daily,” she admits.
“Being away from all you know, and love is tough. I find myself spending holidays alone but thank God for technology and prayer. Nothing beats the word of God even through gospel music, which reminds me why I took this journey.”
Through faith, family, and fashion, Mpumy-Grey continues to embrace her purpose with elegance and authenticity. Her story is a testament to how style can transcend borders and how true beauty begins with being comfortable in your own skin.
