MTN Bushfire KidZone Brings African Circus Fun for Families

The KidZone at MTN Bushfire 2026 will be giving children and families a colourful African circus experience filled with games, performances, storytelling and cultural activities during the festival weekend.

Created around the festivalโ€™s โ€œBring Your Fireโ€ call to action, this yearโ€™s KidZone carries the theme โ€œAfrican Circusโ€, combining entertainment with creativity, culture and learning in a family-friendly environment.

Festival Communications Manager Phiwo Dlamini, through a press release, says the space was designed to celebrate imagination, connection and African storytelling.

โ€œThis year to celebrate the 19th edition of MTN Bushfire Festival, the KidZone invites young Fire Starters and their families into an immersive space where creativity, culture, and connection take centre stage,โ€

Circus Energy at the Heart of the Festival

At the centre of the KidZone is the Circus Playground, where acrobatics, music, movement and roaming performances will entertain children throughout the day.

Families will experience performances from South African acrobatic group The Cirk, Guinness World Record-holding sword swallower Murray Molloy, Klitgras Drumming Circle, as well as local acts including Gymnastics Warriors, Talent in Motion and Clowns Without Borders.

According to Dlamini, the programme is created to mix fun with African creativity and cultural expression.

โ€œThe KidZone emboldens the theme AFRICAN CIRCUS, blending wonder and entertainment with meaningful experiences that celebrate storytelling, environmental awareness, community, and African imagination,โ€ The Grand Stage programme includes karaoke sessions, live music by DJ Tap, magic shows, acrobatic displays, theatre performances and traditional dance performances across both festival days.

Culture and Storytelling Through Play

Another major attraction is the Imagination Tent, created together with Temdzabu Arts. The area focuses on African storytelling, indigenous games, dance, music and riddles aimed at creating learning moments for both children and parents.

Traditional games such as mkoko, triple jump, tin toss and drumming circles will also form part of the activities.

โ€œThe Imagination Tent with Temdzabu Arts offers a softer, immersive world of African storytelling, indigenous games, riddles, music, dance, and creative expression, creating space for curiosity, learning, and cultural connection across generations,โ€ said Dlamini.

The KidZone programme runs from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday during the festival.

Spaces for Families to Relax and Have Fun

Families will also enjoy activity areas spread across the KidZone grounds.

The KFC FunZone includes interactive games, movement activities and dance sessions, while the Craft and Spa Garden gives children space to enjoy painting, beading, crafts and sensory play activities.

A Food Garden has also been included to give families a place to relax and recharge between activities. A wide variety of vendors offer will be laid around the zone at acceptable prices.

Dlamini said the overall experience was built around togetherness. โ€œDesigned with care, creativity, and community at its core, the MTN Bushfire KidZone promises a joyful celebration of African imagination where little Fire Starters can play, learn, dream, and discover alongside their families,โ€

Sustainability Included in the Experience

Environmental awareness has also been included as part of the KidZone programme through eco-conscious games and installations led by the Green Superheroes initiative.

Children will learn about recycling, hygiene awareness and caring for the environment through interactive activities and play.

โ€œIn keeping with the festivalโ€™s ongoing commitment to sustainability and social consciousness, the KidZone also features eco-conscious installations, handmade dรฉcor, and environmental edutainment experiences,โ€ Dlamini said.

The KidZone experience has been supported by partners including KFC, Domestos, Women & Children Clinic and Malandelas Farm.

โ€œBring your little Fire Starters along and experience the magic together,โ€ added Dlamini.
