LUNA Hair + Body is a locally manufactured hair care and skincare brand. Our aim is to create natural beauty products that address the unique needs of POC…

Q. What inspired you to start this business
I think we have always shared an interest in beauty, particularly that of people of colour (POC – individuals with diverse skin tones, hair textures, and beauty needsโ€”particularly those with African descent- specifically melanin-rich skin and textured curly and coily hair) because it resonates with us. Growing up as POC, we realized that there were no products that were gentle enough for our skin type or conditions and a few years later LUNA Hair + Body was created to help address that issue for Africans.

Q. Can you provide a brief overview of your hair and skin care business?
LUNA Hair + Body is a locally manufactured hair care and skincare brand. Our aim is to create natural beauty products that address the unique needs of POC. From hair to skin, our products are effective and natural. Our products are crafted with naturally derived ingredients, ensuring that youโ€™re treating your hair and skin with the best nature has to offer.

Q. How long have you been operating in the hair and skincare industry?
We have been operating in the local beauty industry informally for close to 7 years so it is safe to say we have had enough time to learn the ins and outs of operating the business. However, our brand LUNA Hair + Body has been operating formally for about 2 years.

Q. Are your products organic or do they contain any specific beneficial ingredients? Also, how do you select the products that you offer?
Most of our products are made from a selection of natural and plant-derived ingredients chosen for their scientifically proven efficacy. When formulating our products, we take into consideration the specific needs of POC with their hair and skin types which also help us to select science-backed ingredients to address their specific needs gently and effectively. Our products are versatile enough to work their magic on all hair types & states. By โ€œnatural products,โ€ we mean products that are crafted from natural ingredients, and are designed to bring out the best of every hair type in whatever state itโ€™s in.

Q. How does LUNA Hair + Body incorporate Swati cultural values into its brand identity, and how do these values influence the company’s approach to product creation, community building, and collaboration?
At LUNA Hair + Body, our brand identity is deeply connected to the African cultural values of community and cultural pride. In Swati culture, shared experiences and the passing down of knowledge are at the heart of our traditions. At LUNA Hair + Body, we embrace this principle by creating a community where accurate, research-based knowledge about African beauty needs is shared and celebrated. We honour this by creating products that celebrate African beauty, educate, and empower, ensuring our customers feel seen and valued. Beyond selling products, we foster a community of shared knowledge, collaboration, and empowerment, uplifting local artisans, suppliers, and women entrepreneurs, and ensuring that our heritage remains at the heart of everything we do. Our most recent collaboration, LUNA X Vukani BoMake, reflects this commitment by partnering with a collective that supports women and people with disabilities in the community. Together, we have produced double-layer satin bonnets, crafted using recycled textile waste, blending functionality, sustainability, and tradition, while providing sustainable opportunities that uplift and empower those in need.

What sets our products apart from other products in the market, aside from their efficiency, is the fact that they are specifically formulated for African people by African Women…

Q. What would you say is the best thing about your product and what sets them apart from any other product already in the market?
What sets our products apart from other products in the market, aside from their efficiency, is the fact that they are specifically formulated for African people by African Women. It is no secret that there are a very few products in the market made for African peopleโ€™s skin and hair. Luna Hair+Body was created to bridge that gap.

Q. How do you personalize hair treatments for individual client needs?
We provide a wide variety of products to meet each client’s hair needs. In our skincare line, we offer products for dry and oily skin as well as different combinations for mature skin. When it comes to our hair care, we offer a variety of moisturisers and oils to help address the wide range of hair textures, densities and porosities. Most importantly, it is worth noting that we are very dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint as our products are natural, cruelty-free and paraben-free.

Q. How do you stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in hair and skincare?
What helps us to always stay updated with the latest trends and technologies is our genuine passion for beauty as well as constant collaboration with experts in the field to improve our products as well as constant research and experimentations.

Q. Can you share any client testimonials or success stories that highlight your business’s strengths?

Q. How do you envision your business evolving in terms of services, products, and customer experience? And what are your business goals and aspirations for the next 1-3 years?

Q. In closing, is there anything else you would like potential clients or partners to know about your hair and skincare business?
We are a female owned, led and focused brand. One of our main passions is to support other females like ourselves in the entrepreneurial space. We celebrate individuality, diversity and self-expression with signature products from Eswatini.
