A great accessory does more than complete an outfit. It can change the way the entire look feels. For Sine Leather, that idea is at the centre of its approach to creating leather items that are practical enough for everyday life, but distinctive enough to become part of a personal style.
Leather has always had a place in fashion, but the right piece can be more than an accessory. A well-made bag, belt or wallet can become part of a person’s everyday style, developing character with time and carrying a story of its own.
That idea sits at the heart of Sine Leather, the Eswatini leather goods brand founded and designed by Nomfundo Magagula.

A leather crafter, bag and footwear designer, Magagula started Sine Leather from a genuine love for creating with her hands. What began as a creative passion has since grown into a brand producing handcrafted bags, wallets, belts, footwear and custom pieces, with a strong focus on timeless design, functionality and individuality.
For Sine Leather, the appeal is not simply in making something out of leather. It is in making something that feels considered. In a world of fast production and constantly changing trends, Sine Leather takes a slower approach.
Its pieces are hand-stitched and assembled by hand from start to finish, allowing Magagula to pay attention to the details that can easily get lost in mass production. From the leather and hardware to construction and finishing, every part of the process is intentional. The result is a collection of pieces designed to last beyond a single season.
“We also focus on creating pieces that are timeless rather than driven purely by trends,” she shares.

That philosophy is particularly visible in the brand’s bags. They offer room for experimentation through different shapes, textures, leather combinations and details, while remaining practical enough to become part of everyday life.
Smaller pieces such as wallets and card holders play a similar role. They may be more understated, but because they are used so often, they become personal extensions of someone’s lifestyle.
The Accessory That Changes the Look
For Magagula, leather accessories do not have to dominate an outfit to make an impact. A structured leather bag can bring polish to a casual look, while a smaller crossbody or pouch can introduce personality without overwhelming what someone is wearing. Even a belt or leather watch strap can provide that finishing detail. It comes down to finding the balance between function and design.
“Leather naturally has a timeless quality, so we play with silhouettes, proportions, textures, colours and details to give our pieces a contemporary feel,” she says.

It is this balance that allows Sine Leather to sit comfortably between practicality and fashion, creating pieces that are useful, but still have enough character to become part of an outfit.
A Bag With Character
Among the pieces that stand out to Magagula is the Mhlanga crossbody, a design that brings together premium cowhide and hair-on-hide leather.
The combination gives the bag its distinctive texture and character, while its practical shape makes it versatile enough to be worn for different occasions.

For Magagula, the Mhlanga also represents something bigger than its aesthetic appeal. It speaks to the direction Sine Leather is taking creatively, particularly its interest in bringing African identity and storytelling into contemporary leather design.
The idea is to create pieces that feel modern and relevant beyond Eswatini while still carrying a sense of where they come from.
For a Kulture fashion shoot, Magagula would style the Mhlanga with neutral tones, structured tailoring and subtle traditional elements, allowing the texture of the leather and craftsmanship of the bag to remain the focal point.
Personal Style with Custom Designs
While Sine Leather has its own design language, custom work has become an important part of the brand.
Some customers come with a clear idea of what they want, while others arrive with a need or a vision that has not yet taken shape. Magagula enjoys that process of figuring out how the piece should look, how it should function and what it should say about the person who will eventually wear or carry it.

That is where leather becomes particularly personal, a custom bag is no longer simply a bag. It has been designed around someone’s lifestyle, preferences and personality.
It is also an extension of what makes handmade fashion appealing: the feeling that the piece was created specifically for you rather than produced for everyone.
Building the Everyday Collection
Magagula believes that building a strong accessories collection does not necessarily mean owning dozens of pieces.
Instead, she recommends investing in a few well-made staples that can be styled in different ways. A timeless Duffle leather bag, a quality wallet or card holder, a belt and a versatile pouch or Lungile crossbody.

These are pieces that can move between different looks and occasions while becoming more personal with use. A good leather bag, in particular, can become the finishing touch that pulls an entire outfit together.
From Eswatini to Beyond
Sine Leather has already had opportunities to place its work in front of wider audiences through platforms such as MTN Bushfire and the Standard Bank Luju Festival. Recognition through the Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards has also marked an important moment for the brand. The most meaningful part of the journey for Magagula is seeing people actually wear what she creates.
“There’s something special about seeing people proudly carry and wear something that I created with my own hands,” she says.
Now, the brand is looking towards its next chapter. New collections and silhouettes are in the works, alongside an exploration of more ways to incorporate African storytelling into contemporary leather design. Sine Leather is also looking to expand beyond its current product range and establish a stronger presence within the fashion space.
The bigger ambition is to take the brand beyond Eswatini and introduce its work to audiences in other countries. For Magagula, that means carrying more than beautifully crafted leather goods into the world. It means carrying a piece of Eswatini with them through craftsmanship, creativity, identity and design.
It’s most likely that is where Sine Leather finds its strongest fashion statement: in creating pieces that are not simply made to be carried, but made to say something.
