Beyond the Bucket: KFC Creates Space for Family Fun

For families attending festivals, markets and outdoor events, planning a day out involves more than deciding what to eat or which activities to attend.

Parents also consider whether there will be something for their children to enjoy. KFC Eswatini has been extending its presence into this part of the family experience through dedicated children’s activity spaces at events around the country.

The brand’s involvement at MTN Bushfire, the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival and, most recently, the Eswatini Farmers Market reflects its participation in events that bring together food, leisure and family activities. Through its KFC FunZone and Kids Zone partnerships, the company has become involved in creating spaces where younger visitors can take part in activities while their families enjoy the wider event.

At the 2026 MTN Bushfire Festival, KFC Eswatini served as the lead partner of the festival’s KidZone. The wider area offered a programme of activities designed for children, including storytelling, games, music, movement and creative play.

Within this space, the KFC FunZone provided interactive games, dance and other activities throughout the festival weekend. The KidZone formed part of Bushfire’s wider family offering, which included performances, craft activities and opportunities for children to engage with art, culture and environmental awareness.

Rather than being limited to the main music programme, the festival provided different experiences for visitors of various ages. KFC’s involvement placed the brand within that family-focused environment, extending its presence beyond its restaurants and into a setting where people gather for entertainment, food and shared activities.

The same approach continued at the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival, where families can explore food, fashion, music and other cultural experiences. The festival’s Beehive area provides children with age-appropriate activities, including hands-on creative experiences, while parents can take part in the wider programme.

Luju’s combination of food, fashion and family entertainment makes it an example of how lifestyle events cater to different interests within the same group.

For parents attending with children, the availability of dedicated activities can form part of their decision about how to spend the day. KFC’s more recent involvement at the Eswatini Farmers Market further extended its presence in this space.

For the market’s 10 October 2026 edition at Malkerns Country Club, the company became the event’s first official Kids Zone Partner. The dedicated area gave children access to activities as part of the event experience.

The Farmers Market brings together local products, food, fashion, arts and live entertainment, attracting visitors interested in spending time outdoors and discovering what local businesses and creatives have to offer.

Festival director Mbekezeli ‘Culolami’ Dlamini said the partnership supported the market’s aim of creating an experience that appeals to the whole family. He said the Kids Zone would give children their own space to enjoy activities while parents attended the event. The partnership added a family-focused element to a market that combines shopping and food with leisure.

For businesses participating in these events, the format also creates opportunities to connect with visitors outside a traditional retail setting. KFC’s activity spaces reflect a wider feature of family-oriented events: the programme increasingly needs to account for the different needs of people attending together.

Adults may be interested in shopping, food, music or socialising, while children need activities suited to their ages and interests. Dedicated children’s areas help event organisers provide a broader programme without expecting every visitor to take part in the same activities.

They also give families another factor to consider when choosing where to spend their weekends and leisure time. For a food brand, involvement in these spaces offers a way to maintain visibility in settings where families are spending time together.

KFC’s core business remains its restaurant offering, but partnerships at events allow the brand to participate in experiences connected to family outings and leisure. The FunZone and Kids Zone activities are therefore part of a broader presence across different types of public events.

Bushfire brings together music, arts and culture; Luju combines food, fashion and entertainment; and the Farmers Market provides a meeting point for local products, food and lifestyle activities. Children’s spaces add another layer to these experiences.

As family-friendly markets and festivals continue to feature in Eswatini’s social calendar, the services available to younger visitors remain a practical consideration for parents planning an outing. KFC Eswatini’s participation in these spaces shows how a familiar restaurant brand can also become part of the activities families encounter beyond its outlets.
