MTN Bushfire Opens 2027 Trader Applications Ahead of Landmark 20th Edition

Entrepreneurs, established traders and service providers have an opportunity to tap into one of Africa’s most distinctive cultural festivals, with MTN Bushfire officially opening applications for traders seeking to showcase their products and services at its 2027 edition.

Scheduled for 28–30 May 2027 at House On Fire in the scenic Malkerns Valley, the landmark 20th edition of the festival is expected to provide a valuable commercial platform for local businesses seeking to expand their market reach, strengthen brand visibility and connect with an international audience.

Applications opened on 30 October 2026 and will close on 15 January 2027, with interested businesses required to submit their applications exclusively through the Festival page on the official MTN Bushfire website. Applications submitted through alternative channels will not be considered.

MTN Bushfire Creative Director Jiggs Thorne said the festival’s trading environment continues to provide an important opportunity for entrepreneurs to participate in an event that brings together diverse audiences, creativity and enterprise.

He noted that the festival’s 20-year journey reflects a commitment to creative expression, community upliftment and shared experiences, with the 2027 edition offering traders an opportunity to become part of its next chapter.

The festival is inviting applications across four main categories: Food and Beverage, Fashion and Craft, KidZone, and Lifestyle. The selection process will prioritise experienced traders and service providers who demonstrate quality, creativity, sustainability and professionalism.

Food and beverage vendors are encouraged to submit proposals showcasing authentic, high-quality cuisine, including fresh produce, gourmet street food and artisanal beverages. The Fashion and Craft category targets companies and individual artisans producing original products that contribute positively to the environment and their communities.

Meanwhile, the family-oriented KidZone will accommodate businesses offering children’s entertainment, activities and food for young festivalgoers up to the age of 16. Lifestyle traders are also invited to apply, particularly those providing services that enhance the festival experience, including fitness, yoga, face painting, massage, barbering, hairstyling and makeup.

Beyond providing a trading space, MTN Bushfire positions its commercial environment as a platform for small-business development and participation in Eswatini’s growing creative economy. The festival connects participating businesses with a diverse audience, creating opportunities to generate sales, attract new customers and establish relationships that could extend beyond the three-day event.

Applicants will be evaluated on the uniqueness and quality of their products or services, creativity, relevant trading experience, the professionalism of their proposed stall setup and customer service standards.

Environmental responsibility remains central to the festival’s trading model, guided by its #GREENYOURFIRE sustainability mandate.

All successful traders will be required to use biodegradable packaging, reinforcing the festival’s efforts to reduce environmental impact and encourage responsible consumption. Through partnerships with packaging suppliers and recycling organisations, MTN Bushfire seeks to promote environmentally conscious practices throughout the festival’s value chain.

Its trading policies also emphasise inclusion, ethical business practices and fair trade, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for small businesses to participate meaningfully in the festival economy.

Traders should also prepare for a fully cashless operating environment. MTN Bushfire processes transactions through Near Field Communication (NFC) chips embedded in festival wristbands, eliminating the use of cash at trading points. Successful applicants will receive training on the payment system ahead of the festival.

Prospective traders are strongly encouraged to study the relevant Food, Craft and Lifestyle Trader information packs before submitting their applications. These documents outline the selection criteria, operational requirements and compulsory quality and sustainability standards.

Applications will be assessed after the closing date, with final selections expected to be communicated by 12 February 2027. Due to the anticipated volume of submissions, only successful applicants will be contacted. Those who have not received communication by the end of February should consider their applications unsuccessful for the 2027 edition.

Shortlisted applicants may also be required to present their products and proposed stall concepts. Attendance at a compulsory in-person Trader Workshop at House On Fire may form part of the selection and preparation process.

As MTN Bushfire approaches its 20th edition, the invitation to traders extends beyond securing a stall at a major cultural gathering. It presents an opportunity for Eswatini’s entrepreneurs, artisans and service providers to position their businesses before an international audience while contributing to the country’s creative and entrepreneurial landscape.
