Applications for media accreditation for the 19th edition of MTN Bushfire, scheduled for 29 – 31 May 2026, are now officially open. The three-day event, held in the Malkerns Valley, remains one of Africa’s most prominent cultural showcases, attracting global interest for its diverse programming and commitment to social responsibility.
The festival is inviting established media houses and a broad range of media professionals to apply, including photographers, videographers, travel writers, and bloggers. Applications are open to individuals working for established national and international news services, as well as digital publications. Freelancers and stringers are also encouraged to apply, provided they can demonstrate proof of placement for their work.
Phiwokuhle Dlamini, the MTN Bushfire Communications Manager, emphasized the importance of the media in sharing the festival’s unique atmosphere highlighting the festival’s roster of international talent and its spirit of diversity making it a truly global experience.

“MTN Bushfire is a major media event that has attracted media practitioners and journalists from all around the world,”
Application Process and Deadlines
Journalists interested in covering the 2026 edition must submit their applications through the official MTN Bushfire website. A key requirement for this year is the completion of an application form provided by Eswatini’s Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) before the festival can finalize any accreditation.
The deadline for all applications is May 8, 2026. Organizers have stated that no late applications will be considered. Due to the high volume of interest, the festival will only contact successful applicants, and all final selections remain at the discretion of the festival management.
On-Site Facilities and Benefits
Accredited media will gain access to several exclusive resources designed to facilitate high-quality reporting. These include:
- The Media Village: A designated working space equipped with power outlets and wireless internet to ensure a seamless working experience.
- Press Conferences: Access to official media briefings and the opportunity to request interviews with performing artists.
- Front-of-Stage Access: Priority positioning for photographers and videographers to capture performances.
Travel and Accommodation Logistics
According to the website, While accreditation provides entry and working facilities, it does not cover travel or lodging.
“Approved media practitioners are strongly encouraged to secure their accommodation bookings soon as nearby lodgings fill up quickly,”

The festival website provides a list of recommended local accommodations. Additionally, journalists have the option to purchase camping or glamping passes if they wish to stay on-site, which comes highly recommended for a wholesome experience.
A Legacy of Sustainability
MTN Bushfire has earned international acclaim not just for its music, but for its ethical foundations. In 2017, it was named the Best Responsible Event at the WTM African Responsible Tourism Awards. It has also been recognized as a Top African festival by the BBC and one of the 7 African music festivals you really have to see by CNN.
