A Chat with Blxckie
Highly anticipated South African headliner Blxckie, also known as Somnyama, made a strong impression during his first visit to Eswatini. His comments reflected a wider appreciation for the Firefly concept, which continues to position itself as more than just a competition, but as a safe and inclusive space for creative growth.
โIn the hip hop space or music in general, there never is enough shows that are specifically for the youth to just come out and showcase their talent especially at this scale. This was a big show and it was clear that the kids had so much fun, kudos to the organizers and congratulations to the winners, the energy was crazyโ

Beyond his performance, Blackie highlights the importance of spaces like Firefly, especially for young audiences. He noted that events of this nature create an alternative environment where young people can gather, enjoy music and express themselves freely outside of traditional nightlife settings and the main focus being the music, culture!
โThis is a proper space for kids to come out and have fun that isnโt really a club setup, no one seemed concerned about bottles or the next person, they were just vibing to good music, hyping each other up, You donโt get that a lot.โ
Blxckie also hinted at a growing connection with Eswatini, revealing that the country could soon play a role in his own expanding music ventures especially after the album project he looks to drop sometime next year. The annual show, which is currently hosted in Durban, South Africa, is still developing, but Eswatini is already on his radar as a potential future host based off of the reception at the grand finale.
In addition, he acknowledged the role that local voices have played in introducing him to the countryโs culture, singling out Milliswa Vilane as one of the people who has influenced his awareness of Eswatiniโs hip hop scene.

โIโve got people from Eswatini who put me on, like Milliswa Vilane. I interact with her a lot on X. Sheโs an important player for the hip hop culture, not just here but in South Africa as well.โ
Following the announcement of the winners, Blxckie took a moment to address the Top 3 directly, offering both congratulations and guidance as they step into the next phase of their careers.
โBig congrats to the winners. This is just the start. Keep your head up always and maintain relationships with people, itโs important to build a core fan base too, itโs whoโs watching that takes you far in addition to your hard work and dedication ofcourse.โ
