The Makoti Festival returns on April 25 , 2026 at Malkerns Country Club, promising a vibrant celebration of culture, fashion, live performance and cultural exchange. Since its inception, the festival has grown into one of Eswatini’s most distinctive lifestyle and cultural events, seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary creative expression.
The Makoti Festival was established as a platform that honours African identity while embracing modern artistic interpretation. What began as a cultural showcase has evolved into a major creative movement, drawing designers, performers, musicians and cultural enthusiasts from across Eswatini and the region. The festival’s emphasis on authenticity, pride and innovation has earned it a respected place on the national cultural calendar.

This year’s theme, “Lets rock Imvunulo at Makoti Festival,” calls for a bold and confident expression of traditional wear. The theme challenges creatives and festivalgoers to view Imvunulo not only as ceremonial dress, but as a living, dynamic form of fashion and storytelling that belongs in contemporary spaces.
According to Festival Director Thembinkosi Mthethwa, the theme reflects the festival’s ongoing mission to keep culture relevant and visible.
“Makoti Festival was created to celebrate who we are and where we come from,” said Mthethwa. “When we say ‘let’s rock Imvunulo’, we are encouraging people, especially the youth, to wear their culture with pride and confidence. Imvunulo is not something to be hidden or reserved for special occasions; it is a powerful expression of identity that deserves to be seen, celebrated and redefined in modern ways.”
The 2026 edition will feature live performances, fashion showcases and cultural exhibitions that highlight the richness and diversity of African heritage. Applications to perform at the festival are now open, offering creatives an opportunity to be part of a platform that values originality, cultural pride and artistic excellence.

As Eswatini continues to promote cultural tourism, events such as the Makoti Festival play a vital role in showcasing the kingdom’s heritage to local and international audiences. With its energetic atmosphere and strong cultural foundation, Makoti Festival 2026 invites everyone to come together and rock Imvunulo—proudly, creatively and unapologetically.
