Sifiso Nxumalo Recognised for His Personal Brand

Television broadcaster and media personality Sifiso Nxumalo has been named Consumers’ Favourite Personal Brand at the Made in Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards, recognising the relationship he has built with audiences across his work in media, corporate engagements and brand partnerships.

The award comes as Nxumalo’s career continues to extend beyond television presenting. Alongside broadcasting, he works as a programme director, corporate moderator, interviewer and brand ambassador, placing him in different spaces where communication, audience engagement and public presence are central to his work.

Unlike traditional industry awards, the Made in Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards are based on consumer participation, making the recognition particularly significant for a personality whose career depends heavily on public connection.

For Nxumalo, the award is a reflection of the people who have supported his work across the different platforms where he has built his profile.

“We do not build meaningful careers alone. This award belongs to everyone who has given me a chance to express myself, in whatever capacity, across the different spaces in which I work,” he said.

His career illustrates the changing nature of personal branding, particularly within the media industry. Presenters and broadcasters are increasingly developing identities that exist beyond the programmes they appear on, with opportunities extending into corporate events, interviews, commercial partnerships and public engagements.

Nxumalo has built his own profile across these spaces while maintaining broadcasting as a central part of his career. The recognition also comes at a time when personal branding has become increasingly important for businesses and public figures.

Audiences are not only exposed to personalities through traditional media, but also through events, social platforms, partnerships and other public-facing engagements.

For Nxumalo, maintaining that relationship with audiences has been a key part of his approach to his work.

“Being recognised by the people who consume your work is deeply humbling. I operate in a space where people’s trust is the currency, and that trust is not something I take for granted. It is earned through consistency, authenticity and genuine connection over time,” he said.

Culture and identity have also become visible elements of Nxumalo’s public image. His choice to incorporate traditional-inspired clothing and elements of Eswatini’s heritage into his public presentation has contributed to the way he expresses his identity as a media personality.

Nxumalo credited His Majesty King Mswati III’s example and commitment to Eswatini’s cultural identity as an inspiration for the confidence with which he embraces the country’s heritage.

“Much of my appreciation for our heritage and the confidence with which I embrace it has been inspired by His Majesty’s example and his commitment to preserving and celebrating Eswatini’s identity,” he said.

He also acknowledged Her Royal Highness Princess Sakhizwe, Patron of Made in Eswatini and the Consumer Choice Awards, as well as Melusi Zox Dlamini, Executive Chairperson of A Peculiar People and the awards, for creating a platform centred on consumer choice and local recognition.

Nxumalo said the award should also be viewed within the context of the wider network of people and institutions that have supported his career.

He thanked his family, beNguni, his church, The Church of the Nazarene, Umgadlela Regiment, colleagues at Eswatini TV, friends and mentors, as well as others who have supported his work throughout his career.

“To everyone who continues to support me, thank you for the perpetual vote of confidence,” he said.

He also congratulated the other nominees in the category, saying it was an honour to share the space with people contributing to Eswatini’s creative, commercial and professional landscape.

For Nxumalo, the Consumers’ Favourite Personal Brand recognition adds another milestone to a career that has moved between television, corporate spaces and public engagements.

More than recognising a television personality, the award highlights the growing role of personal brands in Eswatini’s media and commercial landscape, where the relationship between a public figure and their audience can extend well beyond the television screen.
