In a landmark moment for Eswatini’s creative and sporting industries, Guzzani Clothing has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with one of the country’s most iconic football clubs, Mbabane Swallows F.C.
More than just a collaboration, the partnership signals a shift in how local brands and major institutions can work together to create culturally relevant, high-quality products that resonate deeply with the people.
The journey began quietly but intentionally. Sometime last year, the fashion designer and director of Guzzani Clothing, Linda Malinga was invited to a meeting by a senior Mbabane Swallows official. What followed was not just a discussion, but a meeting of minds. The club shared its vision, ambitions, and the direction it hoped to take going forward. That clarity made all the difference.
“The initial meeting was very fruitful,” Linda explains. “The vision was very clear, and it aligned perfectly with ours. That made it easy for us to seal the deal.”
While the partnership may feel like a new direction, Guzzani insists its core identity remains unchanged. Rooted in streetwear culture, the brand has always embraced flexibility, the ability to adapt to different styles and cultural spaces without losing its essence.
“Aligning with football culture didn’t change our vision,” he says. “We’re a streetwear brand, but we’re versatile enough to move across cultures while staying true to who we are.”

This collaboration arrives at a strategic moment in Guzzani’s growth. As the brand continues to expand its reach, partnering with a football club presented an opportunity to connect with a broader, more diverse audience, one that lives at the intersection of sport and fashion.
“We wanted to cater to people who appreciate both,” he explains. “By delivering high-quality merchandise that carries meaning, we’re tapping into a different audience while staying authentic to what we represent.”
Some of the sough after items revealed in the first drop of this limited edition fashion capsule include t-shirts, dungarees, cargo pants, sweaters, and bucket hats.
Widely regarded as a first of its kind for a local fashion brand, the partnership has significance far beyond Guzzani itself. It sets undeniable proof that local brands can be trusted to deliver at a high level and work with major institutions.
“It’s a big win not just for us, but for any other local brand out there,” he says. “This shows that entities can have confidence in homegrown brands.”

Respect was a key pillar throughout the design process. Guzzani was intentional about honouring Mbabane Swallows’ rich history while subtly weaving in the brand’s own identity. Rather than overpowering the club’s legacy, the designs rely on thoughtful details, carefully aligned colours, understated elements, and a balance that allows both identities to coexist.
“Our focus was understanding and respecting the club’s legacy,” he notes. “Every piece represents both the club and Guzzani through small but visible details like club colours aligning with our unique style.”
Since the launch, the response has been nothing short of overwhelming. Fans have embraced the collaboration enthusiastically, with many expressing that it feels long overdue. Players, too, have shown excitement, eager to represent the club in pieces that reflect both pride and style.
“It feels like they’ve been waiting for this all their lives,” he says. “Even the players can’t wait to wear the pieces.”
While many are already asking what comes next, Guzzani is clear that this is just the beginning. The immediate focus is on building a strong foundation for the partnership, understanding that being the first of its kind in local football carries responsibility as much as opportunity.
“This is the start of greater things,” he says. “Right now, we’re focused on strengthening the partnership.”
As “the people’s brand,” Guzzani recognises that the collaboration has also generated debate, particularly from supporters of rival teams who would like to see similar merchandise. While the criticism has at times been intense, including claims that the partnership with Mbabane Swallows alienates fans of other teams who also support Guzzani, the brand remains firmly grounded in its principles.

“Every brand is guided by certain values,” he explains. “There has to be an agreement between two parties, and right now, Mbabane Swallows is the only team we have that agreement with.”
Ultimately, the Guzzani x Mbabane Swallows partnership is about more than fashion or football. It’s about belief in local talent, in shared vision, and in the power of collaboration to shift culture. The legacy Guzzani hopes to leave is one that opens doors, inspires confidence in local brands, and proves that when purpose and vision align, meaningful work follows.
