Eswatini Air Gives Corporate Golf Champions a Cape Town Escape

A day of friendly competition, business connections and sporting camaraderie at the 8th Annual Eswatini Business Health and Wellness (EBH) Corporate Golf Day ended on a memorable note for EEC Team B.

Their victory came with an exciting travel opportunity courtesy of Eswatini Air. However, it was the decision made by the two winning golfers over their prize that added an unexpected touch of sportsmanship to the occasion.

Held at the prestigious Ezulwini Golf Club (Royal Swazi), the annual Corporate Golf Day brought together 13 four-ball teams from across Eswatini’s private sector for a day that combined recreation, networking and fundraising in support of workplace health and wellness initiatives.

Among the highlights was EEC Team B’s impressive performance, which secured them the overall championship.

The winning team members, Vusi G. Dlamini and Zweli Mhlanga, were rewarded with a travel prize sponsored by Eswatini Air, valued at E12 000, in the form of a return air ticket to Cape Town.

The prize, however, was intended for one winner rather than the two golfers. Following discussions between themselves, Dlamini and Mhlanga agreed that the ticket would go to Vusi, making him the beneficiary of the travel opportunity.

The arrangement brought an additional human element to the tournament, demonstrating the camaraderie that can develop when colleagues come together through sport.

While only one of them would enjoy the Cape Town trip, the decision was made between the two winners, allowing them to settle the prize allocation following their team’s victory.

For Eswatini Air, the sponsorship also formed part of the partnerships that helped make the tournament rewarding for participants.

With Cape Town as the destination, the prize offered the winner an opportunity to enjoy a change of scenery beyond the golf course, adding a travel element to an already exciting sporting achievement.

The competition saw other teams walk away with prizes supported by the event’s partners. EEC Team A secured second place, earning a two-night bed and breakfast stay at Happy Valley Hotel, while Ubombo Team A finished third and received Pick n Pay vouchers valued at E800 per player.

ALPHSZ Team B claimed fourth place, also receiving Pick n Pay vouchers valued at E800 per player.

Individual golfers were equally recognised for their performances during the tournament. Thulani Dlamini took the Nearest to the Pin prize on Hole 6, while Melizwe Fakudze claimed the same accolade on Hole 18.

In the Longest Drive category, Samora Nzima emerged victorious in the ladies’ competition on Hole 16, while Welcome Vilane took the men’s title on Hole 17. Lusha Dlamini of the SBS Team was recognised as the Best Lady Golfer.

Beyond the prizes and competition, the 8th Annual EBH Corporate Golf Day provided an opportunity for professionals from different organisations to step away from their usual working environments and engage in a more relaxed setting.

With 13 four-ball teams participating, the event created room for conversations, relationship-building and interaction among businesses that share an interest in employee wellbeing.

Delivering her remarks, the EBH Chief Executive Officer expressed appreciation to the golfers for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm, while acknowledging the employers, sponsors and partners whose contributions continue to make the annual fundraising initiative possible.

An important part of her address centred on the growing mental health challenges affecting workplaces, particularly gambling addiction.

She highlighted how such challenges can extend beyond an individual’s personal circumstances, potentially affecting financial stability, relationships and productivity at work.

Employers were encouraged to recognise warning signs, create supportive environments and ensure that employees experiencing mental health difficulties are encouraged to seek professional assistance.

The message reinforced the importance of treating workplace wellness as something that extends beyond physical health.

Through its programmes, EBH continues to promote a broader approach to employee wellbeing, incorporating health screenings, mental health awareness, psychosocial counselling, stress management, financial wellness and employee support services.

The annual golf day therefore serves a purpose beyond bringing corporate teams together for a sporting challenge.

It also provides a platform through which businesses can contribute towards conversations and initiatives that affect the people who keep their organisations running.

For the golfers, the day offered an opportunity to enjoy competition and celebrate individual and team achievements.

For the sponsors, it was an opportunity to support an initiative that places employee wellness at the centre of business sustainability.

And for Vusi G. Dlamini, the victory came with the prospect of a trip to Cape Town, courtesy of Eswatini Air.

What began as a corporate sporting encounter at Ezulwini Golf Club ultimately produced a winning team, memorable moments and a travel prize that gave the tournament an extra reason to celebrate.

As EBH continues to bring businesses together through its annual Corporate Golf Day, the event reinforces an important message, healthier employees contribute to stronger businesses, and creating opportunities for connection, recreation and wellness is part of building a healthier Eswatini.
