A fresh wave of entertainment is slowly transforming how emaSwati spend their weekends, and at the heart of it is Phas’enyeti Biskop, an outdoor movie experience blending cinema, music, games, and social connection under the night sky.
What started as educational outdoor screenings in schools has now evolved into one of Mbabane’s most unique social experiences. The team behind the concept says their journey began through collaborations with organisations such as UNICEF, the Red Cross, and SWAGAA, where they hosted educational movie screenings for young people. Over time, they realised there was room to create something more social and community-driven.
“We eventually decided to host social outdoor movies to create optional spaces for people to meet in a family-friendly environment,” Bandile Mnisi, the brand ambassador of Phas’enyeti Biskop shared.

The name “Phas’enyeti Biskop” itself captures the spirit of the concept. Loosely translated, it represents the idea of watching movies beneath the moon and stars, an atmosphere designed to feel calm, warm, and intimate. Bandile says they wanted to introduce something different from the usual nightlife scene.
“We felt it would be a fresh concept that’s a bit different from the usual groove and shisanyama.”
Unlike traditional cinema settings or staying home to stream a film, Phas’enyeti Biskop is intentionally interactive. Guests are not just spectators, they become part of the experience. From karaoke sessions and movie trivia to games and spontaneous live performances from attendees, every event carries its own personality. One of the most exciting elements is that audiences even get to vote for the movie they want to watch.
“Nothing is cast in stone at Phas’enyeti,” Bandile explained.

The experience itself has quickly found a loyal audience. Bandile says attendance continues to grow with every event as more movie lovers discover the relaxed outdoor atmosphere and soft-life energy the event promotes. For first-time attendees, he describes the vibe as simple but elevated. As they continue growing, their message to those who have not attended yet remains simple: Pull up with a friend and enjoy the evening together.
“It’s that Sunday energy, calm, soft vibes, open air, and a crowd that just gets it. An elevated way to enjoy cinema,” he shares.
With momentum building, the future of Phas’enyeti Biskop is already expanding beyond Mbabane. The team revealed plans to bring the outdoor cinema experience to all four regions of Eswatini, with venue negotiations already underway.
“The next level is scaling the experience without losing the essence. We want to bring Phas’enyeti Biskop to different parts of the country, explore more beautiful locations, strengthen our curation, and create an even more refined, soft-living cinema culture.”
As Phas’enyeti Biskop continues to grow, it is becoming more than just a movie night, it is slowly shaping a new social culture centered around connection, comfort, and shared experiences. With the stars above, good company all around, and an atmosphere built on comfort and community, the concept is creating the kind of moments people keep coming back for.
