…. J’Something and Coco Share the Recipe behind 15 Years Together at Luju
Long before sold-out concerts, television appearances and culinary showcases, Mi Casa frontman J’Something and his wife, Cordelia “Coco” da Fonseca, discovered that the heart of their relationship was not on a stage but in the kitchen.
Celebrating 15 years of marriage, the couple brought their Afro-Fusion Sonic Food Experience to the Amphitheatre during the second day of the 2026 Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival, where they invited audiences into the intimate moments that shaped their journey together.

Rather than simply preparing a meal, J’Something and Coco used food as a way of telling their story, one filled with laughter, vulnerability, creativity and love. As aromas filled the amphitheatre, they reflected on how cooking became a cherished ritual that strengthened their relationship long before it became part of their public lives.
Coco shared that despite his energetic stage presence today, J’Something was once incredibly shy and found comfort in spending time at home.
“You might not believe it, but this guy used to be really shy,” she told the audience, prompting laughter.
She explained that when he wasn’t touring or performing, the couple naturally gravitated towards the kitchen, where they experimented with recipes and discovered a shared passion that would become central to their lives.
“When he wasn’t outside on stage, all he wanted to do was stay at home. We spent so much time cooking together, and Jay would make up all these incredible things,” she recalled.
As the audience listened intently, Coco jokingly clarified exactly what happened during those quiet evenings together.
“We cooked!” she laughed, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The couple then recreated one of the most meaningful recipes from their relationship, a homemade sangria that J’Something prepared on their very first date.
“What we’re going to make for you guys is something we actually had on one of our indoor dates,” Coco shared.

J’Something smiled as he revealed the significance behind the drink.
“It was our first date, and I made sangria,” he said.
Without missing a beat, Coco teased her husband, revealing that the romantic gesture came with a little help.
“Yes, but he called his mother for the recipe,” she joked, sending the audience into laughter.
Beyond sharing personal memories, the showcase offered practical culinary lessons. As he prepared a delicate fish dish, J’Something spoke about the importance of balancing flavours and encouraged festival-goers to embrace creativity in the kitchen.
“I’ve added a little bit more white wine vinegar because acidity is really important,” he explained while carefully seasoning the meal.
The session concluded with guests sampling the dishes the couple had prepared, transforming the storytelling experience into an immersive celebration of food, culture and connection.
Their appearance perfectly reflected this year’s Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival theme, “Kwasukasukela – A Return to the African Future,” demonstrating how food preserves memories, celebrates heritage and creates meaningful human connections across generations.
More than a cooking demonstration or musical performance, J’Something and Coco’s Sonic Food Experience reminded audiences that the strongest relationships are often built through life’s simplest moments, sharing a meal, trying a new recipe and creating memories around the table.
After 15 years together, the couple’s greatest recipe remains unchanged: love, laughter and a kitchen filled with stories waiting to be told.
